How to play Pixel Cross

  1. Numbers beside each row and above each column describe the filled runs in that line.
  2. A clue of 4 2 means a block of four filled squares, at least one gap, then a block of two.
  3. Left click or tap to fill a square. Right click, or long press, to mark it as definitely empty.
  4. Fill every square the clues require and the hidden picture appears.

Tips & strategy

  • Start with the longest clues. In a fifteen-wide row a clue of twelve leaves only a few possible positions.
  • Overlap is the core technique: shade the squares that are filled in every possible placement of a run.
  • Mark empty squares aggressively. Knowing where a run cannot go is as useful as knowing where it can.
  • A clue whose numbers plus minimum gaps equal the line length is fully determined โ€” fill it immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Do I ever have to guess?

No. Every puzzle is generated and then checked to be solvable by line-by-line deduction alone, so logic is always enough.

What do the crossed-out squares do?

They are your own notes marking squares you have proved empty. They never affect whether the puzzle is complete โ€” only filled squares do.

What are the grid sizes?

Five by five for a quick solve, ten by ten as the standard, and fifteen by fifteen when you want a long sitting.
