Tips & strategy

  • A number sandwiched between two equal numbers must be the keeper — you can't black both sides.
  • Blacking a cell forces its four neighbours to stay white, which often cascades.
  • Keep an eye on connectivity: don't wall off a white cell from the rest.
  • Pairs of equal numbers in a line tell you exactly one of them must go.

Frequently asked questions

What are the rules of Hitori?

Black out cells so no number repeats among whites in a line, no two blacks are orthogonally adjacent, and the white cells form one connected group.

Is there always a solution?

Yes — each puzzle is built from a valid blackout pattern, so a consistent solution exists.
