Tips & strategy

  • Low and high sums are the easiest to crack — few digit combinations fit them.
  • Pencil the possible digits for each run in your head, then use the crossings to pin them.
  • A digit already in a row or column can't appear again in it, which narrows the sums fast.
  • Work the cells where a row clue and a column clue both squeeze the options.

Frequently asked questions

How is Kakuro different from Sudoku?

Instead of fixed boxes, each run of cells has a target sum, and the only no-repeat rule is within a single run.

Can a digit repeat in the grid?

Yes, just not within the same horizontal or vertical run.
